Our Wastewater Specialists can perform various wet chemistry tests at client sites. On-site testing includes ammonia, phosphorus, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), pH, and nitrate. Our specialists can also check the health of the biology in the wastewater system by conducting a microscopic exam, as well as measuring Dissolved Oxygen Uptake Rate (DOUR) to determine how active the bacteria are in the system. These analyses provide critical information to numerous clients who rely on EBS as an important “second set of eyes.”
Aerated Stabilization Basins
EBS is one of the most respected companies in the industry when it comes to monitoring and troubleshooting aerated stabilization basins (ASB’s) in the pulp and paper industry. EBS Principal Consultant Mike Foster has authored over ten technical papers on various aspects of ASB optimization. He is a co-author of a comprehensive manual entitled, “Aerated Stabilization Basins for Pulp and Paper Mills”.

Activated Sludge Systems
EBS also has extensive experience in supporting industrial activated sludge systems in many industries including pulp & paper, chemical processing, petroleum refining, dairy processing, and food processing. History can play a role in determining the tests run at an industrial lab. And so, at times industrial labs desire to step back and review their current lab testing process, the written procedures themselves and the accuracy of how the tests are being performed, and the equipment used with the goal in mind of looking for areas of improvement, which in turn can positively affect compliance with state regulations and permits. EBS has performed many industrial wastewater treatment lab audits to provide clients with this important information as well as training to those performing the tests. A laboratory audit report and subsequent training plan are available to ensure companies maintain optimum high quality test results for their plant permits and the operational decision making process.
