Introduction
and Overview
What is an
ASB?
Aerated
Stabilization Basins are one of the most common types of wastewater treatment
systems found in pulp and paper mills. An ASB consists of a series of
wastewater ponds through which the wastewater flows and is treated via
mechanical or diffused aeration. Aerated stabilization basins (ASBs) make
up approximately one-third of all pulp and paper wastewater treatment
systems in North America. However, there are few books or formal training
courses devoted to this technology. This online course is designed to
accompany and/or complement the new book entitled “Aerated Stabilization
Basins in the Pulp and Paper Industry,” authored by Mike Foster
of EBS and Paul Klopping of Callan and Brooks.
Target Audience
This course is designed to allow the participants to complete the course
while at work or from home. The online format offers the flexibility of
access from any computer with an Internet connection.
The target audience for this training program is wastewater operations
personnel, corporate technical resources, and consulting engineers in
the pulp and paper industry. No specific educational or experience background
is required. The people that will benefit most from this course are those
whose jobs require them to have a working knowledge of the operation,
monitoring, and troubleshooting of aerated stabilization basins in pulp
and paper mills.
Continuing
Education Credits
This course has been approved for continuing education credits
(CEUs) for operator license certification in several states, including
MS and AR. The course may be taken independently or as part of a formal
ten week course offered by EBS on a regular basis. The course is worth
a total of 25 continuing education credits (2.5 CEUs). For individuals
needing only 12 hours per year for license renewal, the course may be
taken in two parts over a two year period.
Course Logistics
This course is designed to be completed entirely online. Each lesson will
have one assignment that must be submitted via emal to the course instructor.
The course is hosted by hotpotatoes.net, which allows you to submit all
of you exercises electronically. Once EBS has received your registration
fee or purchase order, we will email you your user name and password for
hotpotatoes.net. You may change the password to something easier to remember
if you wish.
Cost and Registration
There are several ways to take advantage of this course, depending on
whether or not you need documented continuing education credits. The course
materials can be accessed by anyone, although they are of minimal value
without the textbook. Below are the three options offered for those individuals
looking to participate in this course.
